Historically, ~7.9% of the population (mostly in Transylvania) spoke German in the 1930s. After WWII, the vast majority emigrated (to Germany, Austria, USA), dramatically reducing the community.
Small German-speaking minorities remain, but no significant region or demographic maintains the language as a primary tongue.
