Using American TVs in Europe

American TVs will not work directly in Europe due to voltage and plug differences:

  • Voltage: US = 120V; Europe = 220–240V. Without a voltage converter, the TV cannot draw sufficient power and may be damaged.
  • Plug type: US plugs (Type A/B) differ from European (Type C/E/F). A plug adapter is also required.

To use a US TV in Europe, you need both a step-down voltage converter (rated for the TV's wattage) and a plug adapter. Many modern electronics have dual-voltage power supplies (check the label: "100–240V"); if so, only a plug adapter is needed.
