The Three Scandinavian Countries

Scandinavia: A Regional Overview

The term "Scandinavia" traditionally refers to three sovereign nations on the Scandinavian Peninsula and surrounding areas:

  1. Denmark – Located on the Jutland Peninsula and numerous islands, Denmark is the southernmost Scandinavian country.
  2. Sweden – Occupying the eastern part of the Scandinavian Peninsula, Sweden is the largest by area and population.
  3. Norway – Situated on the western part of the peninsula, Norway is known for its extensive coastline and fjords.

These countries share deep historical, linguistic, and cultural ties, with mutually intelligible languages (Danish, Swedish, Norwegian) and similar social models.
