Clarifying: Germany, Amsterdam, and England in Europe

Three distinct entities, often confused:

  • Germany – Country in Central Europe. Capital: Berlin. EU member.
  • Amsterdam – Capital city of the Netherlands (country in Western Europe). Not in Germany.
  • England – Country within the United Kingdom (UK). The UK is in Europe geographically, but left the EU (Brexit, 2020). England is not a sovereign state.

Geographical Context

  • Germany borders Netherlands (Amsterdam is ~200 km from German border).
  • UK (including England) is an island nation off NW Europe.
  • All three are in the European continent/region, but different political statuses.

Common confusion: "Holland" ≠ Netherlands (Holland = 2 provinces); "England" ≠ UK (UK = England + Scotland + Wales + Northern Ireland).
