Monaco's Location: On French Riviera, Bordered by France and Mediterranean—Not Between France and Italy

Monaco is not between France and Italy. It is a microstate on the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur), bordered by:

• France on three sides (north, west, east)
• Mediterranean Sea to the south

Italy lies ~10 km (6 mi) east of Monaco's border, near Menton (France). Monaco is 100% surrounded by France except its coastline. It's the world's second-smallest sovereign state (2.1 km²) after Vatican City.
