What country was richer west Europe or east Europe?

Western Europe was generally richer than Eastern Europe during the Cold War. Due to a variety of factors, Western Europe had a booming economy after 1945 while Eastern Europe lagged. Eastern European economies stagnated and Eastern European countries accumulated unsustainable levels of debt which led to a debt crisis in the 1980s.
