How did Europeans find the modern-day Suriname?

Europeans first found modern-day Suriname through an expedition sponsored by Dutch merchants in 1593. The expedition was led by a Dutch explorer named Joris van Spilbergen. The expedition set sail from the Netherlands in 1592 and headed towards South America. In 1593, the expedition arrived near the modern-day border between Suriname and French Guiana. Van Spilbergen and his crew were the first Europeans to explore the region and document their findings.
