Arboles is a small, rural town in southwest Colorado that is surrounded primarily by open land and state parks. There are no hotels; the only place of lodging in Arboles is an RV park and campground area. Visitors who wish to stay in a hotel will have to travel at least 13 miles north to the nearest resort.
Arboles has a population of 232, according to U.S. Census data from 2000. The town consists of 5.27 square miles and is located in rural Archuleta County. It sits 6,279 feet above sea level and has a population density of 44 people per square mile.
Pinon Park Campground and RV Resort is the sole place of lodging in Arboles. It offers complete water and electricity hook-ups for RVs and is located in a quiet, secluded area near Lake Arboles. Each campground area features picnic tables and grills. A shower and laundry facility is nearby. There are 30 RV sites, and the resort is open from April through November. For visitors who prefer not to camp in a tent, there is a two-bedroom cabin, two-bedroom double-wide modular with an enclosed patio and a 32-foot two-bedroom mobile with a deck available.
The Sky Ute Casino Resort in nearby Ignacio offers entertainment, dining and lodging, and the Piedra River Resort is just 13 miles north of Arboles in Pagosa Springs. The Piedra River Resort offers cabins, trail rides, cookouts, summer pack trips and day fishing trips. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the nearby fishing hole, hiking trails and feeding spots for deer and elk as they explore the Rockies. The resorts also features the Snack Shack, a tourist shop that sells soda, ice cream, microwaveable food, T-shirts, hats and other souvenirs.
Visitors to Arboles are surrounded by the natural beauty of rugged Colorado and the Rocky Mountains. Navajo Lake State Park and Mesa Verde State Park are close by, offering fishing, boating, swimming, hiking and horseback riding activities. Pagosa Hot Springs and Sky Ute Casino are other local attractions.
