Who settle mainland Greece?

The first permanent settlements in mainland Greece date back to the Neolithic era (around 7000 BC). These early settlers were probably from Anatolia (present-day Turkey) and the Balkans. They brought with them a farming lifestyle and built small villages. Over time, these villages grew into larger settlements and eventually into cities.

Some of the most important early civilizations in mainland Greece include:

* The Minoan civilization (around 2700-1100 BC) was centered on the island of Crete. The Minoans were a seafaring people who traded with other civilizations throughout the Mediterranean. They built large palaces, such as the Palace of Knossos, and developed a sophisticated writing system called Linear A.

* The Mycenaean civilization (around 1600-1100 BC) was centered in mainland Greece. The Mycenaeans were a warrior people who built large fortifications, such as the Citadel of Mycenae. They also developed a writing system called Linear B, which was later adopted by the ancient Greeks.

* The Dorian invasion (around 1100 BC) was a period of upheaval in mainland Greece. The Dorians were a group of tribes from the north who conquered the Mycenaeans and established their own settlements. The Dorian invasion led to the decline of the Mycenaean civilization and the rise of the ancient Greek city-states.
