Why is plaster of Paris called Paris?

The name "plaster of Paris" comes from the fact that it was originally found near Paris, France, specifically in the Montmartre district. The area had large deposits of gypsum, the mineral that is used to make plaster of Paris. The gypsum from this area was of high quality and was particularly well-suited for making plaster. Eventually, the term "plaster of Paris" became synonymous with this type of plaster, regardless of where it was produced.
