Places to See in Tuscany, Italy

Tuscany attracts visitors to its beautiful countryside, vineyards, museums, sea coast, and historic cities. Museums, art galleries, stunning architecture, historic cathedrals and famous statues keep Tuscany's tourists busy. Three of the most visited cities within Tuscany are Pisa, Florence, and Sienna. All three cities offer up something different and memorable to their travelers.
  1. Pisa

    • The Leaning Tower of Pisa is not the only tourist destination in the city.

      Tuscany's main airport is in Pisa, so while you are in town take in some of Pisa's historic sites. The Field of Miracles is the tourists' one-stop-travel-spot because it is home to Pisa's top tourist destinations; including the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Duomo Cathedral and St. John Baptistery. No trip to Pisa would be complete without a visit to the World famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. The Leaning Tower is the bell tower to the adjacent and beautiful Duomo cathedral, which is located in the center of the Field of Miracles and is also worth a visit. The Battistero di San Giovanni or the St. John Baptistery, is the largest baptistery in the Country and is named for John the Baptist. Since the top destinations is Pisa are close in proximity, you can see everything in one day.

    Florence

    • The famous Ponte Vecchio bridge is in Florence.

      The stunning city of Florence is the capital city of the Tuscany region in Italy. This small and modern-meets-medieval city offers up some of Tuscany's most sought after tourist destinations. The Piazza della Signoria was the original location of Michelangelo's David, which is now located in Florence's Accademia Gallery. A replica of the statue stands in its place today, but the Piazza della Signoria is still worth the visit. The political and civic center of Florence, Piazza della Signoria's medieval architecture brings the Renaissance era back to life. Another Florence stop is the Piazza del Duomo, home to Florence's most visible and famous landmark, the Santa Maria del Fiori, or simply, the Duomo. At the time of the building's completion in 1463 it was the largest cathedral in the World. Travelers can climb to the top of the dome and take in a skyline view of Florence. Of course, you can't leave Florence before visiting the Uffizi Gallery to admire paintings by Giotto, Raphael, Michelangelo, Tintoretto and so many others.

    Sienna

    • The Piazza del Campo is the heart of Sienna.

      A trip to Tuscany can be centered around the city of Sienna. It is located in the middle of Tuscany, surrounded by the small towns of San Gimignano, Montalcino and Castiglione della Pescaia all of which offer up different landscape and architectural views. Piazza del Campo is the center of Sienna; within this Piazza is the tower at the Torre del Mangia, where visitors can enjoy views of the city, and the famous fountain Fonte Gaia. The City Museum as well as a children museum are also located within the Piazza del Campo.
