Things to Do on the French Riviera With Kids

The French Riviera has a reputation for drawing the rich and famous to its clubs and cafes, but that's not all the region has to offer. With sparkling blue waters, gorgeous gardens and inspiring art, the Cote d'Azur can be a treat for all ages. It isn't cheap to vacation in the French Riviera, but fortunately, the activities that involve kids generally don't stretch your pocketbook.
  1. Water Parks

    • When you've built enough sandcastles on one of the French Riviera's beautiful beaches, head to another type of water attraction. There are several water parks in the French Riviera, including the large Marineland in Antibes. Kids can swim with dolphins, catch a water show or explore the marine life museum. The park also contains a mini-golf course and a water park for hours of activity. Another choice is Aquatica in Frejus, which offers an elaborate set of waterslides and pools.

    Snorkeling and Diving

    • You can snorkel wherever swimming is allowed in the French Riviera. Strap on a snorkel and check out the underwater life with your kids. With brightly colored fish and other underwater life, this can be an eye-opening activity for kids and adults alike. For a little more underwater adventure, talk to a dive shop in St-Tropez, Ste-Maxime, Cannes or Villefranch-sur-Mer about chartering a boat or tour. Whether your kids are ready for diving or not, spending a day on a boat can be a relaxing way to pass the day.

    Art Exploration

    • Art abounds in the French Riviera.

The town of Nice is home to at least three museums: the Musée Matisse, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the Musée National Message Biblique Marc Chagall. Bring along a picnic and eat in one of the museums' accompanying gardens. If Nice is not accessible, choose a museum closer to your location. As is in the rest of France, art is not difficult to find in the French Riviera, and can be an inspiring learning experience for kids.

    Ceramic Crafts

    • Spend an afternoon making new ceramic creations with your kids at the Ceramic Crea ceramics studio in Antibes. Children are welcome to make their own ceramic pieces, and then have them fired. They can also just paint their ceramic creations while they're still "green."
