How did Pericles choose people for Positions in the government Athens?

Direct Election: Citizens directly voted to fill important government positions, ensuring democratic participation of Athenians in governance.

Appointment in Administrative/Financial Roles: For certain essential government roles, such as tax collection and management of finances, individuals were selected based on skills, knowledge, and qualifications through a process of assessment and appointment to fulfill crucial administrative duties.

Election by Lot (Sortition): An innovative aspect of selecting government officials were done drawing of lots (klerosis) for several offices such as jury members, legislative positions, and even some executive roles. Random selection aimed to give ordinary citizens the change to hold public offices, encouraging diverse representation beyond elites or those seeking leadership actively.

Eligibility: Only free male citizens age 20+ could participate in government. While democratic by ancient standards, it was still restrictive since women, metecs (foreign residents), and slaves excluded from political affairs decision-making process.
