How Rhode Island got discovered?

The official discoverer of Rhode Island is the explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, who set his foot on the land in 1524 while on a mission for the French King. However, the actual first sighting of the state is believed to be of Miguel Corte-Real, a Portuguese explorer, in the year 1511.
