Where do most present-day Israelis originally come from?

The majority of present-day Israelis are descended from Jewish immigrants who arrived in the region from various parts of the world, mainly Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, during the 19th and 20th centuries. These immigrants are known as "Mizrahi Jews" (Jews from Middle Eastern and North African countries) and "Ashkenazi Jews" (Jews from Europe and their descendants in other countries). Additionally, there are some who are descended from Jewish communities that have lived in the region for centuries, such as the Sephardic Jews (whose ancestors were expelled from Spain in 1492) and Yemenite Jews. In recent decades, there has also been immigration from other countries, including the former Soviet Union, Ethiopia, and the Americas, further contributing to the diversity of Israeli society.
