Check your electrical device. The device will have an indication of the input volt and hertz requirements. The requirements are stated either on the device --- usually printed on the bottom or back --- or on the plug. Many U.S. devices will have either an input of 120 volts and 60 hertz or a range of 110 to 240 volts and 50 to 60 hertz. If your device does not specifically state that it can handle the input range of 110 to 220 volts and 50 to 60 hertz, you will need a transformer.
Plug the adapter into the Russian power outlet. If your device handles the 220 volts and 50 hertz input power, as indicated on the device or plug, you can connect directly into the adapter and begin using your device. If your device is only designed for 120 volts and 60 hertz of input power, do not plug your device directly into the adapter as it could overload your device or cause a fire.
As of the date of publication, you can purchase a Type C adapter for around $10 at electronic stores or online.
Plug the 220 volts to 120 volts transformer into the adapter in the Russian electrical socket. Once the transformer is plugged into the adapter, you can safely plug your device into the transformer. The transformer will allow for the correct and safe amount of voltage to be imputed into your device.
