How to Convert Feet to the Metric System

Most of the rest of the world -- including countries such as Russia, Italy, Germany, Portugal, France and Belgium -- uses the metric system instead of the inch-pound system. The metric system is based on units of 10; the inch-pound system is less straightforward, with conversions such as 12 inches per foot and 16 ounces per pound. This makes conversions within the metric system relatively easy, but it can be tricky to convert from the inch-pound system into the metric system until you learn the necessary formulas.
