How to Translate the Metric to Standard System
In the past, converting metric values to the U.S. standard system meant using your head to complete a relatively easy math problem. Now it's a matter of getting online, choosing the measurement you want converted and entering a number. If traveling in a country that uses the metric system, you should have an idea of the difference between a kilometer and mile, but short of that, the online tools can answer any conversions you need both quickly and correctly.

Go to an online metrics conversion website and choose what value you need converted, such as area, distance, temperature, length or height, volume and weight (see Resources).

Enter what metric measurement you need converted and what standard measurement you want it converted to. For example, you can convert five meters to feet or inches depending on what you are using the conversion for.

Hit the conversion button and the websites will give you the U.S. standard measurement.
