How many buddhists live in Greece?
There are approximately 15,000 Buddhists living in Greece. This number includes both native Greeks who have converted to Buddhism, as well as immigrants from other countries, such as Thailand, India, and Sri Lanka. Buddhism has been present in Greece since the 3rd century BCE, when it was introduced by merchants and monks from India. However, it was not until the 1960s and 1970s that Buddhism began to gain popularity in Greece. This growth was due in part to the influence of the hippie movement and the Eastern religions that it popularized. Today, there are several Buddhist communities and centers in Greece, and the practice of Buddhism is recognized by the Greek government.
