Why is Dutch called and German German?

Dutch is called Dutch because the name is derived from the Old English word Deutch which means people. It was originally referred to as Diets/Duits which later got anglicized as Dutch.

German is called German because the name is derived from the Latin word Germanus which means cousin or brother. It was originally referred to as Alemanni which later got Latinized as Germanus.
