What did devolution in Ireland do?

The Government of Ireland Act of 1920 partitioned the island of Ireland and created two self-governing polities: Southern Ireland and Northern Ireland. The act devolved significant legislative, executive, and administrative powers to the two new governments, though they remained part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and subject to the Westminster Parliament.
