Who conquered Ireland?
The Normans invaded Ireland in 1169, led by Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke, known as Strongbow, as part of an internal power struggle between Gaelic chieftains. By the end of the century, the Normans had established control over much of Ireland and had significantly influenced Irish culture, politics and society.
