What is Lochness?

Loch Ness is a large, deep freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands. It is the second largest Scottish loch by surface area (after Loch Lomond), and the third largest in the United Kingdom (after Loch Lomond and Neagh). Loch Ness is about 79 km (49 miles) long, with a surface area of 56.4 square kilometres (21.8 sq mi). Its average depth is 132 m (433 ft), and its deepest point is 230 m (755 ft), making it the second deepest loch in Scotland (after Loch Morar).

Loch Ness is famous for its alleged monster, the Loch Ness Monster, also known affectionately as Nessie. The first modern sighting of Nessie was reported in 1933, and since then there have been numerous alleged sightings of the creature. However, no definitive evidence has ever been found to prove the existence of Nessie, and it is generally considered to be a myth.

Loch Ness is also a popular tourist destination. The town of Inverness, which is located at the northern end of the loch, is a major tourist centre and offers a variety of activities, including boat trips on the loch, visits to the Urquhart Castle, and hiking in the surrounding mountains.
