How did temple bar dublin get its name?

The name Temple Bar comes from the Temple family who owned the land in the 17th century. William Temple was Provost of Trinity College Dublin from 1609 to 1627, and his son Sir John Temple was Master of the Rolls in Ireland. The land was later acquired by the Bar family who built the first bridge across the River Liffey in 1670, which was known as Bar Bridge. The area became known as Temple Bar and the name has been in use ever since.
