The Tunguska River: Major Siberian Waterway

The Tunguska River (Russian: Тунгуска) is a major tributary of the Yenisey in Central Siberia, Russia.

• Source: Angara Plateau (confluence of Nizhnyaya Tunguska's headwaters).
• Mouth: Yenisey River near Turukhansk (~88 km above Yeniseysk).
• Length: ~2,990 km (1,860 mi) including headwaters.
• Basin: ~240,000 km²; sparsely populated, taiga, permafrost.
• Notable: 1908 Tunguska event (meteor airburst) occurred near Podkamennaya Tunguska (a different branch).

The river is navigable in lower reaches; used for timber rafting historically. No major cities; indigenous Evenk and Ket communities.
