How do Costa Rican elect their president?

The president of Costa Rica is directly elected using a two-round system. If no candidate receives at least 40% of the vote in the first round, then the top two candidates proceed to a second round held four weeks later. The president is limited to serving a single six-year term unless re-elected with an absolute majority in the first round (ie more than 50% of the vote), in which case no run-off election is held, and this re-election can't occur after having previously completed another full term
