What subjects do the children in Chile learn?

In Chile, primary and secondary education is mandatory and free for all children between the ages of 6 and 18 years old. The system is divided into two levels:

1. Primary school (enseñanza básica) lasts for 8 years and is divided into two cycles:

* First cycle (grado 1-4): students learn the basics of reading, writing, math, science, social studies, art, and music.

* Second cycle (grado 5-8): students continue to develop their skills in these subjects and begin to explore more advanced topics.

2. Secondary school (enseñanza media), which can be either academic or technical-vocational, lasts for 4 years and is divided into two cycles:

* General cycle (grado 1-2): all students take the same courses, which include language, math, science, social studies, history, art, and music.

* Specialized cycle (grado 3-4): students can choose to focus on a particular area of study, such as humanities, science, or technology.

In addition to these core subjects, Chilean students also receive instruction in religion and physical education.

Upon completing secondary school, students may choose to continue their education at a university, college, or vocational school.
