Which area did Mexico and the US claim before Mexican war?

The area claimed by both Mexico and the United States before the Mexican War was Texas. Texas had been part of Mexico since its independence in 1821. However, in the 1830s and 1840s, a large number of American settlers moved to Texas and began to agitate for independence.
