Preschool education
Preschool education is offered to children between the ages of 4 and 6. It is not compulsory, but it is widely available and most children in Chile attend preschool. Preschool programs focus on developing children's social, emotional and cognitive skills.
Primary school
Primary school is compulsory for children between the ages of 6 and 14. Primary school programs last for eight years and provide students with a broad-based education in subjects such as language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music and physical education.
Secondary school
Secondary school is compulsory for students between the ages of 15 and 17. Secondary school programs last for three years and provide students with a more specialized education in subjects such as humanities, sciences, social sciences, business and technology.
Higher education
Higher education in Chile is provided by universities, professional institutes and technical training centers. Universities offer undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, while professional institutes and technical training centers offer vocational and technical training.
The Chilean education system is highly regarded and has a long tradition of excellence. The country has a high literacy rate and its universities are ranked among the best in Latin America.
