Where did Spain get their gold in the 1600s?

The Spanish primarily acquired their gold in the 1600s from their colonies in South and Central America. The primary source of gold was the Potosi silver mine in present-day Bolivia. It was known as the "Mountain that Eats Men" due to the incredibly harsh working conditions and the hundreds of thousands of indigenous workers who died there due to accidents, malnutrition, and exhaustion.
