What was Peru called before it Peru?

Peru was formerly known as the Virreinato del Perú (Viceroyalty of Peru). This Spanish colonial territory existed from 1542 to 1824 and included much of South America, including present-day Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina.
