How old is Mexico?

The history of modern Mexico can be traced back to 1521 when the Spanish conquistadors, under the leadership of Hernán Cortés, defeated the Aztec Empire and established Mexico City as the center of Spanish rule in North America. Mexico gained independence from Spain in 1821, and the first Mexican Empire was established.
