How did colombia gets its name?

Colombia gets its name from Christopher Columbus, the Italian explorer who led the first European expeditions to the Americas. In 1499, Columbus arrived in modern-day Colombia and named the region "Tierra Firme" (Mainland). However, the name Colombia was later adopted in honor of Columbus and was officially recognized in 1863 when the country adopted its first constitution.
