From where did the name Texas originate?
The name "Texas" is believed to have originated from the Caddo word "tejas", which means "friend" or "ally". The name was first used in the 16th century by the Spanish explorer Alonso de León, who named the region "Tejas" after the Hasinai people, who were native to the area.
