How wide is the gulf of Mexico between Florida and Texas?

There is no direct line from Florida to Texas crossing just the Gulf of Mexico. At the closest points between Florida and Texas the land route has water to the West, Southwest, and Southeast which is part of the Gulf of Mexico.
