Bringing Cigars from the Dominican Republic to the U.S.: Rules and Limits

Travelers returning to the United States from the Dominican Republic will be pleased to know that bringing cigars home is generally permitted, but important restrictions apply.

Duty-Free Allowance

Each adult traveler (21 years or older) may bring up to 100 cigars into the U.S. without paying duties or taxes, provided they are for personal use and accompany the traveler.

Critical Exception: Cuban-Origin Cigars

Despite the Dominican Republic being a major cigar producer, cigars of Cuban origin are strictly prohibited from entry into the United States under longstanding embargo laws. This ban applies regardless of where they were purchased—even if bought in a third country like the Dominican Republic.
