Mexico City's Two Seasons: Dry Winter and Rainy Summer

Mexico City (CDMX) doesn't have four traditional seasons. Its subtropical highland climate (2,240 m elevation) delivers just two distinct seasons:

Dry Season (Winter) – November to April

• Sunny days, cool nights (can drop to 5–10°C / 41–50°F).
• Virtually no rain.
• Peak tourist season (Dec–Apr).
• Air quality can worsen (thermal inversion traps pollution).

Rainy Season (Summer) – May to October

• Daily afternoon/evening thunderstorms, often intense but brief.
• Warmer nights (12–16°C / 54–61°F).
• Lush greenery, fewer tourists, lower prices.
• Occasional hail or flooding in low areas.

"Summer" Months

If defining summer as the warmest, wettest period: May through October (6 months). But temperatures are mild year-round—no extreme heat.

Best Time to Visit

March–May: warm days, cool nights, low rain, jacarandas blooming. Or October: rains ending, green landscapes, Day of the Dead preparations.
