Is there an old New Jersey?

Old New Jersey refers to the northern coastal part of New Jersey before it was taken over by the English and settled by Europeans. During the colonial period, Old New Jersey referred to parts of the province owned by Lord Berkeley including Newark, Elizabethtown, and Middletown.
