Do new zealand restricted license transfer to Australia?

New Zealand restricted licence transfers are not directly transferable to Australia.

In order to drive in Australia as a New Zealand licence holder, you must have a Restricted, Provisional P1, Provisional P2 or Full licence.

If you have one of these licences, you can drive in most states and territories of Australia for:

- up to three months on a visitor visa (subclass 600), or

- for the duration of your visa, if your permit is valid for longer than 3 months.

If your permit expires before you leave Australia, you will need to get an Australian driver's licence.

In most states and territories, this means sitting a practical driving test and paying an application fee. In South Australia, you can instead sit a knowledge test.

You can also apply to have your New Zealand restricted licence exchanged for an Australian restricted licence.

To do this, you will need to:

- surrender your New Zealand licence

- pay an exchange fee

- pass an eyesight test

- provide a valid Australian visa/permit

- supply two passport-sized photos
