Warren Is Not Rhode Island's Smallest City—Central Falls Is

Warren, RI (pop. ~11,000) is not the smallest city in Rhode Island. That distinction belongs to Central Falls (pop. ~19,300 as of 2020), which is the smallest by area (1.29 sq mi) and has the highest population density. Among Rhode Island's 39 municipalities, Central Falls is the most compact city.

Warren is a historic maritime town in Bristol County, known for its 18th-century architecture, shipbuilding past, and access to Narragansett Bay. Central Falls, in Providence County, was a historic textile mill city (the "Chocolateville" nickname from a former factory). Both are small, but Central Falls holds the "smallest city" title.
