Despite the name suggesting a Manhattan location, the Yorkville Branch is part of the Toronto Public Library system, not the New York Public Library. It serves Toronto's Yorkville neighborhood—an upscale district near the University of Toronto and Royal Ontario Museum.
Yorkville Avenue runs parallel to Bloor Street, one block north. The branch sits amid luxury boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. Nearest subway: Bay Station (Line 2 Bloor-Danforth) or Museum Station (Line 1 Yonge-University).
Toronto's Yorkville was named 1830s after Yorkville, New York (itself named for James Yorke, early settler), or possibly directly for York, England. The Toronto neighborhood was annexed 1883; the library branch opened 1907 (Carnegie-funded), rebuilt 1970s.
Manhattan's Yorkville (East 79th-96th Streets, Third Avenue to East River) is served by NYPL's 67th Street, 96th Street, and Webster branches—not a "Yorkville Branch."
