How many homeless are in Hawaii?

According to the 2022 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR) to Congress, there were 6,189 people experiencing homelessness in Hawaii on a single night in January 2022. This number represents a 22% increase from the 5,084 people experiencing homelessness in Hawaii in 2020. The majority of people experiencing homelessness in Hawaii (72%) were unsheltered, meaning they were living on the streets, in cars, or in other places not meant for human habitation. The remaining 28% of people experiencing homelessness in Hawaii were sheltered, meaning they were living in emergency shelters or transitional housing.
