New Findland vs. Newfoundland: Clarifying the Canadian Province

There is no place called "New Findland". The name is almost certainly a misspelling of Newfoundland — a large island and the easternmost province of Canada (officially Newfoundland and Labrador).

Newfoundland lies in the North Atlantic Ocean, separated from Labrador by the Strait of Belle Isle. Its capital is St. John's. The island was among the first North American lands encountered by Europeans (Norse at L'Anse aux Meadows ~1000 AD; John Cabot 1497).
