Visit Granby before your official move, if possible. Peruse the city and check out different areas to find not only a home you'd like to live in, but the right neighborhood, as well. Talk to real-estate agents or browse property literature to find homes or apartments for rent or sale, or simply drive around until you happen to see an available home you like. Once you find the perfect home, make an offer to buy or put in an application to rent the property.
Request information from the chamber of commerce, pick up activity brochures at restaurants, or peruse Internet websites detailing things to do in the area. While you shouldn't overwhelm yourself with activities immediately after moving, don't be afraid to immerse yourself in your new city. Go on a hike at Colorado State Forest State Park, go fishing at the Colorado River Headwaters or Fraser River, or simply check out the local movie theaters and relax with a new film.
Find out what school district your new home is in and enroll your children. Try to become as involved as possible to meet other parents in your area. You could join the PTA, offer to help as a classroom aide, or organize a parent's dinner meeting. If you plan to educate your children yourself, consider joining a home school co-op or support group to help you meet other home educators in the area.
Get to know your neighbors. Invite your neighbors over for dinner if you're outgoing, but try to introduce yourself even if you're shy. You'll likely need your neighbors' help at some point, whether it's borrowing a cup of sugar or asking for directions, so try to get off to a positive start.
