How to Add a Room to a Motor Home

Motor homes have become a subculture and way of life for travel-minded people. Those who love life on the road love these homes, but they may not always be large enough for some owners. To further enhance the motor home with the comforts of a real house, it is possible to add a room to your motor home by installing an added awning to your vehicle.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase an awning-based room to add onto your motor home or RV. These rooms are available through a number of online sources or from motor home and RV stores and outlets. Make sure the room is compatible with the racks and the specifications of your motor home.

    • 2

Fasten the upper rack of the awning to the rack on top of your motor home. Do this on the side facing your door, as the awning will serve as a walkout from your main side door.

    • 3

Fasten the lower bar from the awning rack to the side panel on the lower part of your vehicle. It fastens on both sides of your door and parallel to the upper awning racks above it.

    • 4

Release the roof of your room from the top of your motor home. Slide the heavy screen fabric out away from your motor home to the front of the awning rack.

    • 5

Untie and release the screen fabric that will make up the walls to your extra room. This unties from underneath the upper rack, and will run from the wall of your motor home outward. Lower the fabric to the ground and allow it to flatten into hanging walls.
