How to Set Up a Satellite on a Motor Home

If you want televised entertainment in your motor home, a satellite system is the way to go. An in-motion satellite dish system is a convenient portable option that enables the dish to remain mounted and lie flat while you drive. Then when you pull over, the satellite can be lifted upright and activated.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify a suitable location for the dish. You should select a spot on the roof that can support the weight of the dish. You should also be able to hide the cables within a cabinet inside the motor home once they are fed through the roof.

    • 2

Mount the dish by either gluing it in place or screwing the mount in place. The mounting instructions may vary according to the manufacturer, so follow the manufacturer's instruction manual carefully.

    • 3

Examine the molded connector at the end of the satellite cable to determine the size of the hole required for the roof. Use a saw to cut a hole just slightly larger than the connector.

    • 4

Feed the cable through the roof.

    • 5

Install the cover over the hole in the roof to ensure the roof does not leak.

    • 6

Remove the fuses before installing or connecting any parts of the satellite dish.

    • 7

Connect the power supply and the ignition connection to the satellite system. Plug in the coax and the motor control wire that was dropped down from the roof.

    • 8

Reinstall the fuses and turn on the motor control. Select the satellite system. Exit the motor home and watch the system on the roof to see if the dish moves.

    • 9

Turn on the television inside the motor home and confirm it is operating properly.
