How to Send a Suitcase Home

Increasing costs for luggage fees by airline companies have made it costly to fly with suitcases, especially luggage that weighs more than 50 pounds or is more than 63 inches wide. Fees generally range from $15 to $200 for one or more checked suitcases. You can use a shipping service to send your suitcase home ahead of you if you are flying home from a vacation or are traveling home by another means and don't have the space or money to take a suitcase.

Research commercial shipping services available such as FedEx, UPS, DHS, Luggage Express or Luggage Free. Compare rates and delivery times for delivering your suitcase to your home and select the shipper that you are most comfortable with. Consider convenience, price, reputation and where the receiving location is in your home town when selecting a luggage shipping company to ship your suitcase home.

Take your suitcase to the luggage shipping company. Adorn it with labels that contain your current name, address, phone number and email address on them. Keep your receipt and verify when your suitcase will be delivered and the address of the location it will be delivered to, if not directly to your home. Confirm when you plan to pick up your suitcase at the receiving location with the shipping company.

Pick up your suitcase from the receiving location. Inspect it for damage. Present your receipt and any other confirmation information to the shipping company to receive your suitcase and take it home.
