How to Send Luggage

Airlines are implementing stricter guidelines for passengers with multiple carry-on bags, which is frustrating to many travelers. Most airlines allow one free carry-on bag per passenger, and the bag must be small enough to fit in the overhead bin. Some airlines allow travelers to carry on an additional bag for a fee. To avoid baggage hassles, many travelers are choosing to ship their luggage separately. This allows them to skip the check-in process, which saves them time and makes the overall experience more convenient.

Instructions

Contact your local post office or a shipping company such as UPS or Federal Express. You can also hire services such as Luggage Express, Luggage Ahead and Luggage Forward to pick your luggage up from your home and ship it to your destination.

Purchase all of the packing materials that you need to secure your luggage, and arrange the shipment of your items. Make sure that your destination address is correct and that your packages do not contain items that are banned by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA,) such as drugs, weapons, hazardous materials or explosives.

    • 3

Contact your destination and let someone know that your luggage is on the way. If your luggage is going to a residence, make sure that someone is available to accept it. If your destination is a hotel, ask the hotel management staff to secure your items until you arrive.

Plan for your items to arrive at least 24 hours before you get to your destination. You'll have a better trip knowing that your luggage is safe and secure.
