Pack. Don't do a trial run. Pack the clothes you are going to take on vacation. You don't, however, have to put them in suitcases. You can ship them in boxes.
Measure and weigh your luggage with the items that you are going to take.
Comparison shop. You can ship your luggage through FedEx, UPS, the United States Postal Service or DHL. You can also deal with companies that specialize in shipping luggage such as Luggage Express, Luggage Free and Virtual Bellhop.
Look for discounts. The hotel you are using may have a preferred vendor. Check with the concierge to find out if the hotel has any partnerships with luggage shippers.
Research the specifications they require so that there are no surprises.
Make arrangements for delivery. Make sure someone is there to receive your packages when they arrive. Contact the hotel to find out if there is a fee for storing your luggage.
