Weigh your bags. Some luggage shipment services have weight limits on individual bags that they will ship overseas, however you may ship as many bags as you like, as long as they are under the limit. Contact the service to get the exact details on how heavy your bags can be, as well as a quote on how much the shipping will cost.
Complete the paperwork. You will need to fill out a waybill for the shipment which details what you are shipping. The waybill is for customs purposes, and will keep you from being taxed on your belongings by the foreign customs agents. Some shipping companies will help you prepare your paperwork.
Arrange for a pick up. Most luggage services will pick your bags up from your home or hotel. Make your pick up reservations well in advance of your planned departure date. Overseas luggage shipments should be picked up between four and seven days prior to your departure date, depending on the company you use. Many companies will allow you to book your pick up within 24 hours of the needed time.
Prepare your luggage for shipment. Make sure that your waybill is attached to your bags, or that you give it to the shipping agent. Some companies will package your bags by putting them in boxes or shrink wrapping them for you. Others require you to provide your own packaging. Check with the company prior to pick up for details.
Ship your bags. The company will send an agent to your home, office or hotel to retrieve your bags. They will either package it onsite or take it to a facility for shipment preparation. You will receive a tracking number for your bags.
Collect your baggage. Your luggage should be waiting for you at your destination. If you had it shipped to a hotel, check with the concierge or the front desk to retrieve your bags. Many hotels will place your bags in your room prior to your arrival. If you cannot locate your luggage, call the shipment company immediately and they will track the packages for you.
